The Berber tribes of Morocco have a long history of handmade decorative textiles including blankets, pillows, cushions and rugs. The Handira or Tamizart as its known in the Berber dialect is a beautiful work of art. The wedding blanket is handwoven by women in the Middle Atlas Mountains and once completed accompanies the bride as she enters her new home. Once the weaving is done the hand adornment of each individual sequins can take hours or even weeks to complete. During the winter months the Handira is used as a shawl or blanket with shag side worn inward in cold or wet weather. Each piece is one of a kind and a unique expression of the maker's creativity.
Vintage textiles may show signs of age and wear including repaired tears and holes, fraying and fading. These details are part of the unique history of the piece and add to the beauty and character of the item. All vintage items are cleaned prior to shipment to your home.
